  37. Explanation:assuming that all are goats-->24*4=96
    96-78=18 legs
    4-2=2 legs
    18/2=9 turkeys
    24-9=15 goats

  38. Assuming that all are goats->24*4=96

    24-9=15 goats

    Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats.

  39. This is how I did it.
    Suppose all are goats,
    24x4=96
    96->the total number of legs if all animals were goats
    96-78=18
    18->extra legs
    4-2=2
    2->difference in goat/turkey legs
    18/2=9
    9 turkeys
    24-9=15
    15 goats
    Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats.

  40. Key(that may help):
    Goats-->4 legs and 1 head
    Turkeys-->2 legs and 1 head
    Farmer Ben has MORE GOATS than turkeys

    Method:
    Supposition

    My Working:

    M1
    Assuming that all are goats:
    24x4=96
    96-78=18(extra legs)
    4-2=2
    18/2=9(turkeys)
    24-9=15(goats)

    M2
    Assuming all are turkeys:
    24x2=48
    78-48=30(needed legs)
    4-2=2
    30/2=15(goats)
    24-15=9(turkeys)

    Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats.

  41. If all were goats
    24x4=96
    96-78=18
    4-2=2
    18/2=9
    9 turkeys
    24-9=15
    15 goats
    Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats.

    1. if all were goat
      24 x 4 = 96
      96 - 78 = 18
      4 - 2 = 2
      18 / 2 = 9
      9 turkeys
      24 - 9 = 15
      15 goats

  42. Assume all are turkeys,.......

    24x4=96
    96-78=18
    4-2=2
    18/2=9(they are turkeys)
    24-9=15(they are goats)

    So Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats .

  43. this is my working:

    assume all are goats.
    24x4=96
    96-78=18-difference
    4-2=2
    18/2=9-turkeys
    24-9=15

    and the answer is 9 turkeys and 15 goats

    ReplyDelete
  44. 24 heads = 24 animals

    24x4=96
    Difference=96-78
    =18
    4-2=2
    Turkeys=18/2
    =9
    Goats=24-9
    =15

    Thus the answer is 9 TURKEYS and 15 GOATS

    or

    24x4=96
    96-78=18
    4-2=2
    18/2=9
    24-9=15

  46. this is my working:
    goats have 4 legs. turkeys have 2 legs. So, i assume that all are goats.

    24*4= 96
    96-78=18
    4-2=2
    18/2=9
    24-9=15

    Answer: 9 turkeys and 15 goats.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Turkeys are easier to multiply so:

    24 x 2 = 48
    79 - 48 = 38
    4 - 2 = 2
    30 / 2 = 15 goats
    24 - 15 = 9 turkeys.

  53. This is what I can know from the question...
    - 24 heads = 24 animals (Unless they are aliens)
    - Goats = 4 legs
    - Turkeys = 2 legs
    - There are MORE goats than turkeys.
    - It would take me forever to use Guess and Check.
    - So I used Supposition method.

    This is my working:

    (Method 1: Supposition)
    Assume all are goats,

    24x4=96 ->legs (goats)
    96-78=18 ->no. of extra legs
    4-2=2 ->difference in no. of legs
    18/2=9 -> no. of turkeys
    24-9=15 -> no. of goats

    (Method 2: Supposition)
    Assume all are turkeys,

    24x2=48 -> legs(turkeys)
    78-48=30 -> legs needed
    4-2=2 -> difference in legs
    30/2=15 -> no. of goats
    24-15=9 -> no. of turkeys

    I think using method 2 as my checking method would take a long time so I prefer to use this method:
    15+9=24 (correct)
    15x4=60
    9x2=18
    60+18=78 (correct)

    Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats. :D
