S1: Farmer Ben has more goats than turkeys. If all the animals have 24 heads and 78 legs altogether, how many turkeys and how many goats has Farmer Ben?
My answer is 9 turkeys and 15 goats. I used supposition method. Guess and Check is sooo lloonngg and boring! I hope Mrs R posts more questions like this! BYE!!! See ya! 8D 8P !!!
This is how I did it. Suppose all are goats, 24x4=96 96->the total number of legs if all animals were goats 96-78=18 18->extra legs 4-2=2 2->difference in goat/turkey legs 18/2=9 9 turkeys 24-9=15 15 goats Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats.
This is what I can know from the question... - 24 heads = 24 animals (Unless they are aliens) - Goats = 4 legs - Turkeys = 2 legs - There are MORE goats than turkeys. - It would take me forever to use Guess and Check. - So I used Supposition method.
This is my working:
(Method 1: Supposition) Assume all are goats,
24x4=96 ->legs (goats) 96-78=18 ->no. of extra legs 4-2=2 ->difference in no. of legs 18/2=9 -> no. of turkeys 24-9=15 -> no. of goats
(Method 2: Supposition) Assume all are turkeys,
24x2=48 -> legs(turkeys) 78-48=30 -> legs needed 4-2=2 -> difference in legs 30/2=15 -> no. of goats 24-15=9 -> no. of turkeys
I think using method 2 as my checking method would take a long time so I prefer to use this method: 15+9=24 (correct) 15x4=60 9x2=18 60+18=78 (correct)
My answer is 9 turkeys and 15 goats.

9 turkeys and 15 goats.
ReplyDelete24x4= 96
ReplyDelete96-78=18
4-2=2
18/2=9 turkeys
24-9=15 goats
Farmer Ben has 15 goats and 9 turkeys.
24*4=96
ReplyDelete96-78=18
4-2=2
18/2=9
24-9=15
15goats 9turkeys
24*4=96
ReplyDelete96-78=18
4-2=2
18/2=9
24-9=15
Ans:15goats 9turkeys
Explanation:assuming that all are goats-->24*4=96
ReplyDelete96-78=18 legs
4-2=2 legs
18/2=9 turkeys
24-9=15 goats
Assuming that all are goats->24*4=96
ReplyDelete96-78=18 extra legs
4-2=2 legs
18/2=9 turkeys
24-9=15 goats
Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats.
This is how I did it.
ReplyDeleteSuppose all are goats,
24x4=96
96->the total number of legs if all animals were goats
96-78=18
18->extra legs
4-2=2
2->difference in goat/turkey legs
18/2=9
9 turkeys
24-9=15
15 goats
Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats.
(/ means divide)
Key(that may help):
ReplyDeleteGoats-->4 legs and 1 head
Turkeys-->2 legs and 1 head
Farmer Ben has MORE GOATS than turkeys
Method:
Supposition
My Working:
M1
Assuming that all are goats:
24x4=96
96-78=18(extra legs)
4-2=2
18/2=9(turkeys)
24-9=15(goats)
M2
Assuming all are turkeys:
24x2=48
78-48=30(needed legs)
4-2=2
30/2=15(goats)
24-15=9(turkeys)
Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats.
If all were goats
ReplyDelete24x4=96
96-78=18
4-2=2
18/2=9
9 turkeys
24-9=15
15 goats
Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats.
if all were goat
Delete24 x 4 = 96
96 - 78 = 18
4 - 2 = 2
18 / 2 = 9
9 turkeys
24 - 9 = 15
15 goats
Assume all are turkeys,.......
ReplyDelete24x4=96
96-78=18
4-2=2
18/2=9(they are turkeys)
24-9=15(they are goats)
So Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats .
this is my working:
ReplyDeleteassume all are goats.
24x4=96
96-78=18-difference
4-2=2
18/2=9-turkeys
24-9=15
and the answer is 9 turkeys and 15 goats
24 heads = 24 animals
ReplyDelete24x4=96
Difference=96-78
=18
4-2=2
Turkeys=18/2
=9
Goats=24-9
=15
Thus the answer is 9 TURKEYS and 15 GOATS
24x2=48
ReplyDelete78-48=30
4-2=2
30/2=15
24-15=9
or
24x4=96
96-78=18
4-2=2
18/2=9
24-9=15
ANS:15 goats........9turkeys
Either ways is the same...
Deletethis is my working:
ReplyDeletegoats have 4 legs. turkeys have 2 legs. So, i assume that all are goats.
24*4= 96
96-78=18
4-2=2
18/2=9
24-9=15
Answer: 9 turkeys and 15 goats.
Turkeys are easier to multiply so:
ReplyDelete24 x 2 = 48
79 - 48 = 38
4 - 2 = 2
30 / 2 = 15 goats
24 - 15 = 9 turkeys.
24x4=96 (assume all are goats)
ReplyDelete96-78=18 (extra legs)
4-2=2 (extra legs)
18/2=9 (turkeys)
24-9=15 (goats)
Farmer Ben has 15 goats and 9 turkeys.
Assume all are goats,
ReplyDelete24x4=96
96-78=18 extra legs
4-2=2 (difference in legs)
18/2=9 turkeys
24-9=15 goats
Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats.
24x4=96
ReplyDelete97-78=18(extra legs)
4-2=2(difference)
18/2=9(turkeys)
24-9=15(goats)
He has 9 turkeys and 15 goats.
Assume all are turkeys,
ReplyDelete24x4=96
97-78=18(extra legs)
4-2=2
18/2=9(turkeys)
24-9=15(goats)
He has 9 turkeys and 15 goats.
24x4=96 (assuming all are goats)
ReplyDelete96-78=18 (no. of extra legs)
4-2=2 (difference of legs)
18/2=9 (turkeys)
24-9=15 (goats)
ANS: 9 turkeys and 15 goats
This is what I can know from the question...
ReplyDelete- 24 heads = 24 animals (Unless they are aliens)
- Goats = 4 legs
- Turkeys = 2 legs
- There are MORE goats than turkeys.
- It would take me forever to use Guess and Check.
- So I used Supposition method.
This is my working:
(Method 1: Supposition)
Assume all are goats,
24x4=96 ->legs (goats)
96-78=18 ->no. of extra legs
4-2=2 ->difference in no. of legs
18/2=9 -> no. of turkeys
24-9=15 -> no. of goats
(Method 2: Supposition)
Assume all are turkeys,
24x2=48 -> legs(turkeys)
78-48=30 -> legs needed
4-2=2 -> difference in legs
30/2=15 -> no. of goats
24-15=9 -> no. of turkeys
I think using method 2 as my checking method would take a long time so I prefer to use this method:
15+9=24 (correct)
15x4=60
9x2=18
60+18=78 (correct)
Farmer Ben has 9 turkeys and 15 goats. :D
